For a girl from the suburbs of Bay Area, California, New York City was the distant land of shimmering lights and opportunity. And in the summer of 2017, I was accepted into the New York Times Summer Program for High School Students, off of an application essay which professed that.
While in New York, I brought my camera with me everywhere I went, capturing scenes that caught my eye. Each of the photos presented has meant something to me. They all represent a moment in time which my worldview expanded. Captured with a Nikon D40, I present to you 2017 NYC through the eyes of a New York Times summer program student's first time in the city.
